Everybody is important and has a part to play and we focus on the core

Introduction
In India mothers lack facilities of giving birth safely, treatment for sickness is not easily accessible and challenges for healthy babies are manifold. Child with disability would entail huge financial drain. Parent empowerment is requisite.
Background
“Don’t mop the floor, when the building is on fire”. Many people focus on the small stuff while they should be working on major issues.
The mission of Latika Roy Foundation, “Plan for the most vulnerable, make the world better for everyone” translates to the developing a strong core for most vulnerable children by developing the mother. The Early Intervention Centre of Latika Roy Foundation focuses on parent empowerment in many different ways like believing in the mother being the expert and supporting and developing her skills to help the baby.
Design
The daily routine at the Early Intervention Centre is designed in a manner that children achieve the developmental milestones by attending sessions. It follows a family based approach where all programs are activity based and result oriented. The focus is on the core issues and everything else follows.
Results
Kids with disabilities and mothers get the first taste of socialising, playing and learning therapy through activities. Parents learn to look beyond the problems of their babies and appreciate the positives and differences.
Conclusion
This paper describes how less can be more. The process of training the mother through activities, play and social skills can be developed for development of the child.
